Stunning album on the famous 17th century French statesman with full page and double page watercolour illustrations in chromolithograph in a magnificent embossed coloured binding with pages held by stubs to allow full spread of illustrations. The text is in the original French language. Original green pictorial cloth gilt, with a polychrome illustration on the upper board by J.Fau of Richelieu standing by a map, sword in hand, crown on a table by his side, his arms above, lettered in gilt, red and black, some wear at extremities.
Gold blocked page edges. 84pages, frontispiece, 40 chromolithograph illustrations including 36 full-page and 2 double-page plates. Many of the illustrations overlay the text, and the leaves are all mounted on linen guards. A rare and beautiful book.
